On 21 January, the x-CITE project officially kicked off in Tampere, just ahead of the annual Open & Agile Smart Cities (OASC) conference.
x-CITE unites leading European smart cities — including Tampere, Rotterdam, the Flanders region, and Istanbul — alongside research institutions and innovative companies. Together, they are building the foundations of the CitiVerse: an inclusive, interactive digital space where citizens can explore, understand, and shape their cities.
The kick-off meeting in Tampere marked the start of this ambitious journey. After months of preparation, project partners gathered to align on goals, use cases, and the first actions to be launched in the coming weeks.
“The atmosphere was truly collaborative and forward-looking,” said Tiia Joki, Development Manager at the City of Tampere. “Work packages are well-defined, and we’re ready to start delivering tangible results.”
With the x-CITE launch, Europe takes a major step forward in creating digital cities that are not only smarter, but also more inclusive, sustainable, and citizen-driven.
Stay tuned – the CitiVerse journey has officially begun!
