The Art Realm ’26 Biennial will be organized in Tampere 13.6.-16.8.2026.
The Tampere Art Museum is producing the extensive Art Realm ’26 Biennial, showcasing contemporary art in the city centre at the Finlayson area and in public urban spaces, as well as at the Haihara Art Centre in Kaukajärvi. The theme of the biennial is Together, explored through a wide range of artistic content, techniques, and participatory approaches. Nearly 80 artists are taking part, and most of the works have been created this year specifically for Art Realm.
The biennial features sculptures, drawings, paintings, printmaking, installations, photographic art, and media works. Throughout the summer, visitors will also be able to experience numerous participatory performances that actively engage audiences.
One of the artworks, UrbanAI Art by Jussi Lahtinen, was co-funded by the x-CITE project.
UrbanAI Art is a visual artwork powered by artificial intelligence that generates a continuous stream of unique cityscapes. Each image appears only once before being replaced, creating a fleeting experience that invites viewers to reflect on the nature of art and authorship in the age of AI. Created by Tampere-based visual artist Jussi Lahtinen, the piece builds on his Metropolis series (2015–), inspired by Fritz Lang’s Metropolis (1927).
In addition to screens located at the Finlayson area, images created by UrbanAI Art will be presented at various tram stops and busses’ info screens in Tampere.
