School children testing Tampere use cases

The testing of two City of Tampere use cases, UC1 “Public Art on the Map” and UC3 “Cathedral 1918 – Civil war storytelling”, has started. In total, approx. 850 seventh-grade pupils and 40 teachers will take part in the tests during September and October. The tests will be conducted by Art Arc (UC4), City of Tampere’s cultural education programme for basic and early childhood education.

Art Arc (“Taidekaari”) celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2026, being one of the most established and extensive cultural education programmes in Finland. The programme introduces and engages children from three years of age to youth in the 9th grade of upper comprehensive school, in the art and culture of their hometown. Every year all the age groups attend a visit and a workshop according to a fixed scheme, which ensures that every child gets to visit all the main cultural venues of Tampere at least once during their school years. The programme is also built to introduce a rich variety of art forms to try, from poetry and circus to street art and music.

In the case of seventh graders, Art Arc includes an interactive workshop tour in an exhibition, which can be in a historical museum or an art museum. Usually, these workshop tours are led by a guide and an artist (drama, music, poetry or other) creating a multidisciplinary experience. In 2026, two of these workshop entities will be built around x-CITE use cases UC1 and UC3.

In addition to testing, Art Arc will also develop practical pedagogical methods to plan and execute educational content utilizing new technologies.
