What if you could see the impact of future traffic measures – before they’re implemented?

x-CITE is proud to announce the launch of its first Flemish pilot use case in Kortrijk.
In this pilot, a CitiVerse – an interactive Local Digital Twin, or 3D replica of the local environment – will be developed. This will allow citizens, experts, and officials to explore traffic impacts of a reconversion project (“RUP Weggevoerdenlaan”) in lifelike 3D. They will be able to test traffic-mitigation scenarios (e.g., circulation plans, speed-limit changes) and compare their effects on traffic, air quality (NO₂/PM), and noise.

The Kortrijk municipal council has approved the project, and the first four traffic counting devices will be installed by our partner Telraam by the end of October. These sensors record multimodal traffic counts (pedestrians, bicycles, cars, heavy vehicles) and vehicle speed. This data will then be fed into traffic models developed by our partner TML.

A stakeholder focus group – bringing together representatives of neighbourhood committees, schools, property owners, retailers, and local businesses— will assess traffic forecasts and their impacts on air quality and noise. They will then co-design mitigation measures to reduce adverse effects and maximise traffic safety and flow. This process will help x-CITE to validate both the usability and clarity of the digital tools.

Results from this focus group will be presented at a public on-site event that will also mark the formal launch of the tools.

Stay tuned for updates!
